Early 2009 Spring Training attendance is up two percent from last spring.
According to a report from the Commissioner's
Office, through 154 games, the Cactus and Grapefruit leagues have drawn a
total of 871,502 fans for an average of 5,659 fans per game, up from a 5,548
average "through the same number of games" in '08. The figure does not
include games between World Baseball Classic and MLB teams.
With the number of Spring Training games increasing due to the World
Baseball Classic, Cactus League President Robert Brinton "has little doubt
the league will break its all-time attendance mark." Brinton says, "Even if
attendance is down 1,000 per game, we'll still set a record."
